Montana legislators have rejected an effort to hold a special legislative session on the topic of election integrity.
According to the Montana Secretary of State’s office, 104 of the state’s 150 lawmakers responded to the poll on calling a special session, and 44 supported the request.
A small coalition of hardline conservatives submitted the request last month, saying there’s “widespread belief” among Montanans that irregularities have sown doubt in its election integrity.
Their request did not cite evidence of irregularities, nor polling to indicate it’s a common belief.
Republican legislative leaders have been unsupportive of a special session on election integrity in the past, saying the 2021 Legislature passed a number of bills they say protect elections in the state.
