A tenured professor at the University of Montana has voluntarily taken paid leave after the university’s student newspaper reported the professor’s blog shared homophobic and misogynistic views.
The Montana Kaimin broke news Monday that computer science professor Rob Smith allegedly authored a blog expressing misogynistic, Islamophobic and anti-LGBTQ+ ideas.
UM spokesman Dave Kuntz says Smith has voluntarily taken paid leave until an investigation led by the university’s Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX is completed.
“They’ll be judging actions based on the university’s discrimination, harassment and retaliation policy,” Kuntz says.
Kuntz says the university supported Smith taking paid leave so that students taking computer science classes were not disrupted.
