U.S. House of Representatives

U.S. Representative Greg Gianforte says he believes comprehensive tax reform is the best way to help Montanans keep more of their money. The Montana Republican made that remark Friday on the Northern Broadcasting System’s "Voices of Montana" radio program.

"Particularly for our farming and ranching community. The proposal on the table that’s been agreed to in concept wit the Senate, the House and the administration would completely eliminate the death tax, make it easier for farm and ranch families to pass their farms and ranches down to their kids and grandkids."

Gianforte says current tax code needs simplification.

"We all know the tax code is way too complicated. This proposal would essentially have most Montanans filling out their tax return on something that looks like a post card. I’m all for that, boy," Gianforte says.

The Senate passed a $4 trillion budget bill this week that lays the groundwork for Republicans' promised tax legislation.

The 9-page framework still has plenty of blank spaces that will need to be filled in by year's end.
