Montana Attorney General Tim Fox officially filed for re-election today. One Montana political scientist thinks Fox is well-positioned for the 2016 election.
University of Montana political scientist Rob Saldin says it’s not surprising that Attorney General Tim Fox announced he’s running for re-election.
Fox did, after all, file his statement of candidacy paperwork all the way back in 2014. Among the political issues he’s chosen to tackle while in office are suing the federal government over new limits on carbon dioxide emissions, and he once defended Montana’s gay marriage ban.
Rob Saldin says Fox’s visibility on issues like these play in his favor.
“And any Democrat who would challenge him would be starting almost certainly with a lot less name recognition. Of course this is a Republican-leaning state, and Tim Fox is a Republican.”
Saldin notes other Montana attorneys general have gone on to serve as governor; Marc Racicot and current governor Steve Bullock to name two. No Democrat has yet filed to challenge Tim Fox.
