She shares the Pulitzer for breaking news for the Washington Post's coverage of the 2007 massacre at Virginia Tech..
She was dispatched to put a human face on tragedy. Over the course of her career she covered the very first Postal shooting in Oklahoma back in 1986, the Oklahoma City bombing, the D-C snipers, the OJ Simpson trial, Ted Bundy, the Green River Killer, terrorist bombings in London and, of course, the September 11th attacks.
Violence and human suffering has been the dominant theme of her 30-year career.
