Montana wildlife officials have announced they shot and killed a grizzly bear after confirming it fed upon cattle near Augusta.
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks says the three- to four-year-old bear killed four calves. A different grizzly was recently reported in the Augusta area, and state wildlife officials urge residents to continue to exercise caution.
Montana FWP says bear activity is increasing on the Rocky Mountain Front and across the state. The agency advises farmers, ranchers, homeowners and outdoor recreationists to be prepared to encounter bears anywhere in western Montana as their population and range expands.
