A Big Sky High School student was taken into custody Friday by the Missoula Police Department’s school resource officer after allegedly making a “credible threat” of school violence on social media.

Missoula Police Department Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold says the student was detained within minutes of the resource officer receiving information concerning the threat. Arnold says nobody was hurt, and there is no further risk to the public.

MPD says the student reported having “homicidal ideations and access to weapons.”

In a letter, Missoula County Public Schools thanked law enforcement for their prompt response and encouraged students, family and staff to report threats of violence to any MCPS school.

The student is being charged with felony intimidation.
