Yellowstone National Park said Monday it hosted over half a million visitors in June. That’s around one-third less than the same time in 2019.
However, visitation at the end of June looked a lot different than the first few weeks. Yellowstone officials said traffic was actually near or above average during the last ten days of the month.
The total number of Yellowstone visitors so far this year is half of where it was during the first six months of last year.
June was the first month all five entrances to Yellowstone were open since closing in March due to COVID-19 concerns.
The park was closed for nearly two months beginning March 24 due to health and safety concerns related to COVID-19. The two, less-trafficked Wyoming entrances re-opened on May 18. The three Montana entrances re-opened on June 1.
