Wildfires are impacting air quality in Libby and Thompson Falls.
Montana DEQ

The Department of Environmental Quality is reporting unhealthy air quality in Libby this afternoon. It says the air in Thompson Falls is unhealthy for sensitive groups.

That’s because of wildfire smoke from the southwest, including around the Goat Rock fire complex, which has been burning since August 20. Fire crews have been monitoring the complex’s approximately 22,000 acre burn area for the last two weeks.

The DEQ expects air quality to improve as the day goes on, and says a cold front expected to arrive tomorrow will help, too.
