Friday, Montana Legislators hear a bill to let underage drinkers phone in help for a friend who’s had too many without fearing getting an MIP.
Daniel Zolnikov is sponsoring House Bill 412.
“The bill will give immunity to individuals who are under 21 if there’s drinking or any substance abuse, if there’s a medical emergency.”
Zolnikov says he knows what happens in college and elsewhere, and that this law will help.
“That way, these, usually students, college students, they aren’t going to be as worried about getting an MIP, they’re going to be more focused on saving someone’s life."
If it passes, Montana would join 21 states and the District of Columbia with similar laws which either give amnesty to an intoxicated minor needing medical attention or both that minor and the person who helps them.
