Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, singer, fiddle player and founding member of the Irish traditional music group Altan, talks with John Floridis about the group's thirty-year career, including their past performances in Montana. Still actively touring and recording, Altan remains one of the most vital and influential musical voices from Ireland. As the group's website points out: "The seeds of the band lie in the music and fun of gatherings and sessions in kitchens and pubs in Donegal, where virtuoso music was heard in an atmosphere of respect and intimacy. This is where the band's heart lies still, whether they are performing on Australian television or jamming with Ricky Skaggs in the U.S."

(Broadcast: "Musicians' Spotlight,"  3/2/17. Listen weekly on on the radio Thursdays, 7:30 p.m., or via podcast.)
