A report of an explosive device drew the Missoula police and fire departments as well as the local bomb squad this afternoon to a home near Playfair park .

Police Detective Sergeant Jim Klawitter says the incident at 919 Spartan Drive started at about 3:00:

"Officers arrived and saw what they thought could be a pipe-bomb (and) called for the bomb-disposal team. We obtained a search warrant and they used the robot to move a suspected pipe bomb and destroy it.

Nobody was injured in the process of destroying the device.
Police then conducted a thorough search of the house, but turned up no sign of any other suspected explosives. Residents of the house were extensively questioned. No reports of arrests as of early this evening. It was also unclear who originally  spotted the pipe-bomb and notified police.
Four neighboring homes were evacuated, but those residents were allowed to return at about 7:00 p-m.
