State officials have issued a draft operating permit for an underground copper mine in central Montana that opponents worry could harm one of the state's most popular fly-fishing destinations.

Early snow storms have closed several roads in the region.

A new report from the Montana Department of Justice released today says meth violations are up more than 500 percent in the last five years. And since 2010, heroin crimes are up more than 1500 percent, contributing to Montana having the highest jail incarceration rate in the region.

A Montana high school donated all of the money from its homecoming budget for fire relief in the state.

Close to 200 people showed up to the first day of hearings in Kalispell today about whether the state should permit a water bottling plant near Creston in the Flathead Valley.
