The list of areas evacuated, or in evacuation warning areas in Western Montana began ticking up at about noon today.

An abrupt change in wind direction on the almost 31,000 acre Rice Ridge Fire near Seeley Lake Monday triggered a new round of evacuations, forcing hundreds from their homes. A handful of evacuees wound up at the Red Cross Shelter at Missoula’s University Congregational Church. We spoke with two of them.

The  Lolo Peak Fire is in critical weather conditions today and could possibly turn extreme tomorrow. The forest is continuing to dry out and firefighters are watching out for spot fires that could appear in the area this afternoon during thunderstorms from the southwest.
