Two public input meetings on the proposal to remove Yellowstone-area grizzlies from the Endangered Species list are now scheduled. One will be at the Holiday Inn in Bozeman on Tuesday, April 12. It will follow a meeting one day earlier in Cody, Wyoming.
The agency says it’s "committed to making a final decision whether or not to delist the Yellowstone grizzly bear population [based] on the best available scientific and commercial information."
The meetings will start with an informational open house session from 2:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon, followed by public hearings from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A press release says Fish and Wildlife Service employees will be available to answer questions during the earlier session, and then people will be allowed to make comments, limited to three minutes each, during 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. session.
The Fish and Wildlife Service is also taking comments on grizzly delisting online and via mail. The deadline for public comments is May 10.
