A Billings-based conservation group filed a lawsuit Tuesday over a Trump administration committee reviewing royalty payments on fossil fuels from public lands.

The Western Organization of Resource Councils claims the Royalty Policy Committee is stacked with industry supporters who conduct some meetings in secret. It’s asking a federal judge to disband the committee and throw out its recommendations.

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — U.S. officials delayed lease sales on federal oil and gas reserves beneath more than 160 square miles (414 square kilometers) of public and private lands in eastern Montana in response to a recent court ruling on climate change, a U.S. Bureau of Land Management spokesman said Wednesday.

Environmentalists are expressing disappointment in the new Clean Power Plan Advisory Council that Governor Steve Bullock announced today.

The 27-member body includes 17 people either directly tied to the coal-fired energy sector or supportive of it.
