The Montana Highway Patrol Trooper who was shot and critically wounded over two weeks ago has regained consciousness.

Montana Attorney General Tim Fox says Trooper Wade Palmer emerged from his medically-induced coma on Tuesday.

The man killed this week in a fiery, wrong-way crash on Interstate-90 near Missoula was a friend and law school classmate of Montana Attorney General Tim Fox.

Fox describes Martin Elison as, "A wonderful individual. An incredible guy."

Proposed Opioid Drug Tax Would Fund Treatment Courts

HELENA — According to a study from the state health and human services department, more than 700 Montanans have died from an opioid overdose since 2000.

“And the number one recommendation from that study was that we need to invest in treatment courts,” said Rep. Zach Brown, D-Bozeman.
