Glacier National Park’s new proposed management for Going to the Sun Road calls for increased shuttle bus service, bike access and a new 100-car parking lot. The plan was released Friday and its sole focus is reducing congestion as park visitation grows.

The National Park Service wants to expand housing for seasonal employees who work for private companies operating in Yellowstone. Wednesday kicked off a 30-day public comment period.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The first golden eagle in Yellowstone National Park fitted with a tracking device has died of lead poisoning, likely after consuming bullet fragments while scavenging the remains of an animal killed by a hunter, officials said Monday.

A missing Arizona man’s body was found in a Glacier National Park lake Tuesday.

The call came in Tuesday morning, "reporting that a member of their family was missing, that they thought that he might be in Glacier National Park," says Lauren Alley, spokesperson for the park.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A wide-ranging bill that revives a popular conservation program, adds 1.3 million acres of new wilderness, expands several national parks and creates five new national monuments has won congressional approval.

The measure is the largest public lands bill approved by Congress in more than a decade. The House passed the bill Tuesday, 363-62, sending it to the White House for the president's signature.

A plan that could change how visitors travel along the Going-to-the-Sun Road Corridor is among several projects Glacier National Park announced Monday they’re moving ahead with this year.

The plan to reduce issues of overcrowding along the park’s popular throughway has been in the works for years.

Yellowstone National Park reports that it experienced another busy year last year. The park recorded over 4.1 million visits. That’s a 0.04-percent decrease from 2017 and a 3.5 percent decrease from the record-breaking year in 2016. It was the third busiest year on record.

Glacier National Park will host an open house and industry night Feb. 13 for contractors interested in rebuilding the Sperry Chalet dormitory. Glacier had planned to host the event in January but had to postpone due to the partial federal government shutdown.

The chalet’s dormitory was badly burned in the Sprague Fire in 2017.

WEST YELLOWSTONE — Federal employees have returned to work at public lands throughout the nation, but the cost of keeping national parks open during the record-length partial government shutdown remains unknown.
