What I Like About Jazz this week features part one of a two-part tribute to the late Mulgrew Miller. Miller had a long and varied career as a leader and sideman, prominently featured with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in the 1980's band that also featured Donald Harrison and Terence Blanchard. He then went on to spend 9 years with another great jazz drummer, Tony Williams, playing on 6 albums with his classic quintet that featured Wallace Roney and Billy Pierce, and on Tony's final trio album in 1993. Along the way, he played sideman to a host of jazz greats, as well as many up-and-comers.

Tonight on WHAT I LIKE ABOUT JAZZ , it's part two of a tribute to the late Cedar Walton. We'll hear a selection of "later" recordings from the last 30 years; solo piano, duets with Ron Carter, the Sweet Basil trio, Eric Alexander and more,  including one of his latest recordings with Houston Person.  8:30 pm Wednesday, October 2.

Monday, October 7th, 7:30pm: For October, Allen Secher's monthly edition of the Monday Music Special, "You Must Remember This," wanders from the Great American Songbook and to the Great American Folksong. Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, The Weavers, and Pete Seeger perform folksongs and sing-alongs from the 1950s and 1960s.

Sunday, September 29th, 2013: Michael Marsolek talks with John Zoltek, Music Director of the Flathead Valley's Glacier Symphony & Chorale, about the group's 31st concert season.
