The Montana Democratic Party will soon start searching for a new executive director. Monica Lindeen will step down from her post as executive director of the Montana Democratic Party by year’s end.

Montana Attorney General Tim Fox’s chief deputy has announced he plans to run for Fox’s seat in next year’s election.

Republican Jon Bennion has worked at the Montana Department of Justice for the past six years.
The 40-year-old Billings native says his tenure there gives him a distinct advantage in Montana’s 2020 Attorney General race.

The Montana Democratic Party alleges Secretary of State Corey Stapleton broke campaign finance law early this month when announcing his plans to run for governor.

The Democrats filed their complaint with the state’s Commissioner of Political Practices earlier this week. It submits as evidence a press release sent from the Secretary of State’s Office on January 2, announcing Stapleton’s plans to run for governor in 2020.

The Montana Democratic Party’s new executive director is no stranger to state politics.

Monica Lindeen replaces Nancy Keenan, who led the party since 2015. Lindeen served eight years as the State Commissioner of Securities and Insurance, and then lost the 2016 Secretary of State race to Republican Corey Stapleton. On Wednesday Stapleton announced he’s running for governor.

State Auditor Drops Fines Against Top Campaign Donor

Family members and employees of a Billings-based bail bond company facing fines and sanctions by the Montana Commissioner of Securities and Insurance gave nearly $13,000 to Republican State Auditor Matt Rosendale’s political campaigns in 2016.

One day after a 2017 face-to-face meeting with company representatives, Rosendale dropped the fines and dismissed two of the three allegations against Friedel LLC. The company paid no penalty under the terms of the agreement.
