Missoula Police say they are investigating an undisclosed number of drug overdoses associated with pills containing fentanyl, a dangerous synthetic opioid.

The Missoula chief of police says state investigators are looking into a fatal shooting by police. Missoula police gave new details on the shooting during a press conference Thursday.

A rally in Missoula Sunday drew hundreds to decry the presence of armed vigilantes at racial justice demonstrations. The gathering was spurred after one person was allegedly harassed and attacked by a group of armed individuals during a protest held at the county courthouse over a week ago.

Protests in Montana over the death of George Floyd have remained peaceful, unlike others seen in large cities across the country. Montana police officers say they want to keep it that way, and denounce the excessive use of force by law enforcement. At the same time, public health officials are trying to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 as groups gather.

Missoula police still have no conclusive evidence that a city patrol car was actually shot last week. The ongoing investigation is raising more questions than answers.

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — Missoula police have released the names of two officers involved in a fatal shooting earlier this month.

Sgt. Travis Welsh said Friday officers Chris Proper and Eric Weber remain on paid administrative leave while the Sept. 2 shooting death of 35-year-old Steven Gill is investigated.

Montana’s Republican U.S. Senator was in Missoula Thursday. He invited police and prosecutors to share their concerns about Montana’s meth crisis.

Sen. Steve Daines wanted straight talk on methamphetamine’s impacts on western Montana. Regional law enforcement gave him plenty to chew on.

Missoula police say they’re making progress into their investigation of a shooting incident that left two boys wounded outside a local high school Sunday evening.

Detective Captain Mike Colyer says police have recovered a small-caliber pistol they believe was used in the shooting.

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — A high school student who was fleeing a police officer crashed a car Friday during a chase involving gunfire, although it was not clear who fired the shots, authorities said. Nobody was injured in the chase or crash, Missoula police said.
