Missoula International Airport


The U.S. Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that Montana will get nearly $48 million in grants for airports. It’s part of $477 million in airport improvement grants nationwide.

Passenger traffic at Missoula International Airport last year set an all-time record. The airport handled over 848,000 passengers. That’s a 10 percent increase over 2017.

Since 2000 the airport has seen an 85 percent increase in passenger traffic.

As President Donald Trump stoked the crowd inside a hangar at Missoula’s airport last night, a small group of protesters mixed with some of the people who didn’t make it inside.

A couple dozen of the several hundred people outside milled around a police barricade about a mile away.

At the same time, a "Love Trumps Hate" rally was happening across town where organizers registered people to vote, marched to the polls, danced and rallied in opposition to the president.

Missoula International Airport issued this statement on parking and logistics: 

"Parking for the Presidential Visit will NOT be on Airport property.  It will be East of Northstar off Corporate way.  Shuttles from the remote parking area will start at 2:00 PM.  Please refrain from driving in front of the terminal unless picking up or dropping off passengers.

There’s been a slight change of venue for President Donald Trump’s rally in Missoula on Thursday, October 18. It will now be held at Minuteman Aviation which is just west of the Missoula International Airport’s terminal. The event was originally scheduled to be held next door at Neptune Aviation.

Missoula is getting more direct flights next summer. American Airlines and the Missoula International Airport announced Monday that direct service will begin in June: a seasonal route from Chicago and a year-round direct connection with Dallas.

Airport deputy director Brian Ellestad says that this has been a long time coming.

A new tax on airplane fuel is nearing a final vote in the Montana Legislature.

United Airlines will offer direct flights next year from Missoula and Kalispell to Los Angeles. The new seasonal daily service begins in early June.

Neptune Aviation’s red-tailed Tanker 10 flew hundreds of firefighting missions all over the United States. Tuesday it embarked on its final mission: being placed at the entrance of the Missoula International Airport to greet incoming passengers.
