Bill Allows Local Governments To Adopt Public Intoxication Laws

The Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously voted to give local governments the ability to adopt and enforce a public intoxication law.

Supporters of the bill say the intent of the bill is to get help for people who have frequent contact with law enforcement or other first responders.

The Montana Legislature took a step toward ratifying the state’s final outstanding water compact this morning, with a vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee. The compact involving the federal government and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes has drawn more heated debate than any issue except perhaps Medicaid expansion.

Lawmakers Debate Increased Penalties For Surreptitious Images Of 'Intimate Parts'

Today was the first hearing of Senator Jennifer Fielder’s bill (SB50) to increase penalties for those who take video or pictures of people’s “intimate parts” without their knowledge.

This proposal comes after a Jensen Jewelers employee was convicted of hiding a camera in the women’s bathroom. Lewis and Clark Deputy County Attorney Luke Berger says the man was later found with 96 similar pieces of footage.
