U.S. Democratic Senator Jon Tester held his third in-person town hall of the year in Helena, Tuesday, July 2. Tester won reelection to a third term in 2018 by three percentage points.

A town hall event with Democratic U.S. Senator Jon Tester brought around 100 people to the Helena College Student Center Tuesday morning.

Tester was praised for his work on public lands and stance on funding public education, but received some push back on issues surrounding the southern border.

The crowd was overall favorable to the state’s senior Senator as microphones were passed between rows of plastic seats for an hour of questions.

Thousands of people across Montana rallied Saturday as part of the nationwide “Families Belong Together” day of action protesting President Trump’s immigration policies.

In Missoula, clumps of protesters wielding signs and wearing silver foil blankets marched up and down Higgins Street, chanting, "Oh no, they’re not nice. What do we do? Abolish ICE."

A federal appeals court in Helena has blocked the deportation of a Mexican man who recently settled a lawsuit over claims that he was sexually assaulted in an Immigration and Customs Enforcement Facility in Jefferson County.

An undocumented Mexican immigrant who says he was raped while in custody at the Jefferson County Jail is waiting to see if his case will be heard in court before he is deported. Meanwhile, the alleged incident is calling into question how the jail ensures the safety of prisoners.

A prayer vigil was held Tuesday night at Helena’s First United Church of Christ for a Mexican man who says he was raped while in custody at a Montana jail in October.

A series of such vigils are being held around the state

Undocumented immigrant Audemio Orozco-Ramirez was detained after a routine traffic stop in Sidney, Montana.

The vigils seek justice and solace for Orozco-Ramirez and his family. His lawyer wonders if Orozco-Ramirez will be deported before the case can be heard.
