Grizzly Bears Showing Up On Prairies North Of Great Falls

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) — State game wardens have been busy monitoring and hazing grizzly bears as they show up on the prairies east of the Rocky Mountain Front and north of Great Falls.

Today* is the deadline to buy health insurance on HealthCare.gov for coverage that starts on January 1. The White House has targeted 20 places around the country with high uninsured rates, offering the one that improves the most a visit from President Obama. Great Falls is in the competition. Earlier today I spoke with White House Advisor Valerie Jarrett about today’s deadline to sign up for health coverage.

Severe wind and flooding was reported from all across the western parts of the state today. Helena seemed to be hit the hardest with wind.

Air quality is poor across Montana due to wildfires burning in the western U.S.

Smoke levels across most of Montana spiked today, with air quality readings reaching "Very Unhealthy" in several locations, including Missoula, Great Falls, and the Flathead Valley; and reaching the highest warning level, "Hazardous" in Hamilton.

Meteorologist Kristen Martin with Montana Department of Environmental Quality says the smoke could get even worse before it starts to get better over the weekend.
