Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) says Monday’s federal ruling to put grizzlies in and around Yellowstone National Park back on the Endangered Species List will not affect the agency’s work on a new rule that will dictate how Montana will manage grizzlies in and around Glacier National Park if that population is removed from the Endangered Species List.

Opponents of removing Yellowstone-area grizzly bears from the endangered species list asked a federal judge Wednesday to put a second delay on grizzly hunts that were slated to start at the beginning of September in Wyoming and Idaho.

All Stage 1 and Stage 2 fire restrictions have been lifted across northwest Montana.

Put simply, that means campfires and outdoor smoking is allowed again. Restrictions have also been lifted on operating equipment.

A new wildfire burning on western Montana’s Flathead Reservation serves as a good reminder that the 2018 fire season still has some life in it.

The nearly 1,100-acre Rattlesnake Fire is burning about 10 miles northeast of Hot Springs.

There’s a band of rock that starts on one bank of the Middle Fork of the Flathead River west of Essex. It drops down underneath the current and rises up on the other side. Colter Pence says this is her favorite stretch of the Wild and Scenic River.

WEST GLACIER, Mont. (AP) — Glacier National Park officials have deployed a game camera and empty "decoy" tent at a popular campground to watch for a bear that's believed to have torn into an unoccupied tent.

Park officials say an animal ripped through the side of the tent at Rising Sun Campground on Friday and pulled out bedding and pillows. Hair samples and a scat pile believed to be from a bear were found at the scene.
