Environmentalists Sue Over Lynx Habitat

A federal judge in Montana ruled today that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service failed to consider including critical habitat areas in a plan to protect the endangered Canada lynx.

WildEarth Guardians and three other groups filed a suit over critical lynx habitat Monday. Plaintiffs say the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service excluded too much area in the southern Rocky Mountains of New Mexico and Colorado when they designated protected habitat for the Canada lynx.

The leader of a Montana conservation group says it’s prepared to file an eleventh lawsuit if the federal government doesn’t change its bull trout recovery plan.

The Alliance for the Wild Rockies has successfully sued the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service over bull trout recovery ten times in the past.

Bull trout are listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act in the lower 48.
