Starting Jan. 1, Kalispell Regional Healthcare (KRH) will begin operating under the name Logan Health. The hospital system has been expanding beyond the Flathead Valley, acquiring medical facilities in the Shelby area and has plans to take over other facilities near the Rocky Mountain Front.

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Flathead County reported Montana’s seventh coronavirus death on Monday, the same day the county’s largest hospital announced pay cuts for physicians and administrators along with temporary layoffs that will affect about 600 workers.

Nurses across the Kalispell Regional Healthcare (KRH) system overwhelmingly voted to unionize last week. The newly formed union will represent more than 500 nurses working in KRH facilities.

After about a year of organizing, about 65 percent of Kalispell Regional Healthcare nurses voted in favor of unionizing on Thursday and Friday.

More than 500 nurses working for Kalispell Regional Healthcare will vote this week on whether to unionize. The vote will bring disagreement over staffing ratios to a head.

The $24 million that the hospital in Kalispell agreed to pay in 2017 to settle a whistleblower lawsuit was the biggest recovery ever in Montana under federal False Claims Act.

Leaders at Kalispell Regional Healthcare admitted no wrongdoing in response to an investigation that doctors were referring patients to hospital-affiliated businesses in which the doctors had an ownership interest. Doing so would call into question whether those referrals were motivated by medical necessity or financial interests.
