CenturyLink representatives gave the Montana Public Service Commission an update today on their work to improve inadequate phone service in several Montana communities.

Last fall the PSC and CenturyLink settled a lawsuit over the quality of their phone service in Wibaux and Wolf Creek.

CenturyLink updated state regulators today on their work plan to improve phone and internet service in areas that had prompted a lawsuit.

In August, Montana’s Public Service Commission agreed to drop a lawsuit against CenturyLink after the company agreed to fix chronic phone service problems around Wibaux and Wolf Creek.

Some rural Montana telephone customers have extracted a promise from CenturyLink for more reliable service. People in remote areas have long complained that their phones will go dead for days at a time, making it impossible to summon help in an emergency.

Tuesday some rural Montana residents convinced the state’s Public Service Commission to do something about what one of them calls their "crappy phone service."

"Sometimes it doesn’t work. For instance, I run a small business out of my home, and I can run it with an answering machine….," says Ellis Misner, who lives near Craig between Helena and Great Falls.
