Belgrade Montana

A non-profit organization that serves more than 12,000 people in southwest Montana is updating its community needs assessment. It helps determine which projects get the green light and affects how millions of dollars are allocated. Communities across Park, Gallatin and Meagher Counties identified affordable housing as one of the top priorities in the last assessment three years ago.

A threatening video posted to social media forced a shelter-in-place order for Belgrade schools and postponed a middle school graduation Tuesday. 

Schools in Belgrade, Montana were put under a shelter-in-place order today while law enforcement investigated a video threatening violence toward students.

Belgrade High School remained under the order until 4 p.m.  A precautionary shelter-in-place order for Belgrade Middle School and Saddle Peak and Heck Quaw elementary schools was lifted at 3:30 p.m. and students were released at normal times.

Today we’re taking a look at housing prices in Montana. In our last story, we reported on how tariffs on Canadian and Chinese building supplies are driving up prices for new homes in Montana.

But there appears to be some downward pressure on prices for existing homes.

“Well, so things are starting to change,” says Brint Wahlberg, of the Missoula Organization of Realtors.

Wahlberg says the local median sales price is still holding strong at close to $290,000.

MTPR reporters spent today talking to voters across western Montana. Nora Saks stopped by the Belgrade Events Center this afternoon where high school had just let out. Voting booths were set up in front of a trophy case and voters who had just cast their ballots shared what issues were on their mind.

Funeral For Slain Montana Deputy Set For Tuesday

On Tuesday, hundreds of law enforcement officers from Montana and surrounding states are expected to attend a memorial service for a sheriff's deputy who was killed in the line of duty.

“The family wants everyone and anyone to attend. Anyone that is interested in attending, please come,” says Gallatin County Sheriff Brian Gootkin.

Montana is home to over 150 gun manufacturers, the highest number per capita in the nation.

The United States is a big player in the global arms trade, and nationwide, Montana is pretty into the gun business, it has the highest number of licensed gun manufacturers per capita of any state.

But not very many Montana guns are sold overseas. Montana’s Senators Jon Tester and Steve Daines are trying to change that for people like Peter Noreen.
