Montana Green Party's Ballot Benefactor May Remain Unknown

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Whoever bankrolled the effort to qualify the Montana Green Party for this year's state ballot may get away with remaining unknown because the state's campaign disclosure laws do not address anonymous groups funding certain signature gatherers.

A ruling today from Montana’s top elections cop says the Green party violated state campaign law by not reporting electioneering spending. He says the Greens benefitted from an unknown amount of money from an unknown source to help them gather signatures on a petition to run candidates on the November ballot.

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — The Montana Green Party sought the public's help in gathering voter signatures to qualify its candidates to run in state elections this year, but it is unaware of anybody being paid to do so, party officials said Monday.
