War of the Worlds: Orson Welles and his Little Green Men

Sunday, October 27th, 2013: Michael Marsolek talks with "Heat Ray" Ekness, Professor in the School of Journalism at the University of Montana, about Montana Public Radio's October 30th re-enactment of the Mercury Theater's 1938 War of the Worlds radio drama.  Writer Howard Koch and director/narrator Orson Welles adapted the plot of H.G. Wells's novel for radio, suggesting through a series of simulated news bulletins that an alien invasion by hostile Martians was underway.  Outrage from duped listeners followed, as well as fame for Orson Welles.

Ekness directs the live MTPR radio broadcast, which coincides with the 75 anniversary of the original.
