The University of Montana has received a $1 million donation towards an endowed professorship in finance.

The University of Montana received a $1 million donation today towards an endowed professorship in finance.

UM Foundation’s Kate Stober says the money will help the business school in more ways than one.

“It’s amazing to get a donation of this caliber because it allows us to fund a position in perpetuity. And not only fund that position, but provide extra resources in the terms of research dollars for that professor, which really allows them to stay at the top of their game in the field."

The donation comes from the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay on behalf of the late Carol Jean Byrnes.

In 2003, Byrnes and her husband Donald established an endowed professorship in Donald’s name. Donald studied business management at UM.

There have been two Byrnes Professors at the school of business since 2003. UM’s School of Business Administration has 11 professorships and fellowships that are partially funded through donor support.
