'The Trouble With Twins': Logan Reviews

Knopf Books for Young Readers

The trouble With Twins, by Kathryn Siebel is a very funny, and at times suspenseful, book. The main characters are Arabella and Henrietta Osgood, two very nice girls who are twins. They were born on the second and third days of April. Henrietta was born a little before midnight on the second and Arabella was born a little while after in the early morning on the third. That’s how they can be twins but be born on separate days. They both are loved, but Arabella is the one who is noticed more so Henrietta feels left out, which can cause problems.

In the beginning, Arabella gets mad at Henrietta because Henrietta was making her late to a birthday party. It makes Henrietta feel mad and sad at the same time because she wasn’t trying to make her late to the birthday party. She just wanted to play a game of hide and seek and assemble a puzzle that had 1000 pieces. One time, Henrietta gets sent away because she cut her sister’s hair as revenge for feeling left out. Her parents definitely over-reacted. They weren’t thinking straight. Also, their mom isn’t a good artist – she thinks she is, but she isn’t. Arabella is very distressed by this. Eventually things resolve and everyone is back together again.

It’s told by a mother the way her mother told it to her, and she’s telling it to her child because she wants her daughter to learn that even in the darkest of times, you are still connected to your friends and family and you should never lose hope.

I would recommend this book for third grade and up or kids who are feeling left out in their families and if you are feeling alone in your life, know that you are never really alone – you never are.

Logan H. Wilson is a 10-year-old boy from Missoula, Montana. He loves reading, of course, and is rarely seen without a book. His favorite authors include J.K. Rowling, Tolkien, Brian Jacques, and Christopher Paolini. The Eragon books are one of his favorite series. In addition to reading, he is a serious rock hound who likes looking for crystals and collecting interesting rocks.  He is also interested in art and chemistry. When he grows up, he wants to be an inorganic chemist who reviews books in his spare time.
