Montana Senator Steve Daines Thursday reiterated his unwavering support for U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

“I’m just surprised at how the media and the protesters are trying to take us down a rabbit trail. We've got to come back to the qualifications of judge Kavanaugh," Daines said.

Daines joined South Carolina Senator Tim Scott on an early morning Facebook live stream to answer questions about Judge Kavanaugh. Both Republicans support his nomination.

“(U.S. Supreme Court) Justice (Elena) Kagan, when she was the dean of the Harvard Law School, hired Judge Kavanaugh to be on the staff there at Harvard to teach at the law school," Daines said. "This is getting lost in translation. The media's focused on these protestors and more of a process question than really the substance of what this guy thinks.”

Protestors representing a broad array of activist groups, including abortion rights, gun control and labor union organizations are disrupting Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings.

Montana’s senior senator, however, says he remains undecided. Democrat Jon Tester says he’s still hoping for a face-to-face meeting with Kavanaugh.

The White House says that despite several attempts to schedule a visit with Tester, a meeting time has not yet been settled.
