Review of 'I Don't Want to Be a Frog'

I Don't Want to Be a Frog by first-time author Dev Petty and Canadian illustrator Mike Boldt chronicles a frog's journey of self-discovery, who thinks life would be much better if he were a cat or a rabbit. Kids and parents alike will appreciate and relate to the frog's banter with his matter-of-fact father about the little frog's desire to be something different. Between Petty's wry, witty dialogue and Boldt's fun illustrations, kids will be laughing along at our hero's stubborn yet endearing schemes to prove himself. Boldt uses coloured speech bubbles with long, meandering tails to help children keep track of who is talking when multiple voices crowd the page. Readers new and familiar to a comic-book style will enjoy this smart, funny book.

Dev Petty

After graduating from UC Santa Cruz, Dev Petty became a senior visual effects artist in the film industry. Petty  has since left the film industry, but continues to paint and teach in the visual arts while pursuing her passion for storytelling. She makes her home in Albany, California.
