Review of 'Have You Seen My New Blue Socks?'

Eve Bunting's book, Have You Seen My New Blue Socks chronicles the life of a young duck trying to find a pair of misplaced socks. When I read this story to the fussy 3-year old I encountered in the Buttercup Market, a quaint cafe with fantastic quiche, he delighted in the colorful illustrations of Sergio Ruzzier and almost immediately forgot why he was throwing a tantrum to focus on the task at hand: finding the lost socks belonging to duck. The joy for young readers is getting to laugh at this character, taking comfort in knowing that other creatures forget things and make mistakes. (You know it's happened to you, too.) The illustrations are bit like those of Dr. Seuss, so fans of The Sneetches and Other Stories are sure to enjoy this book. Bunting and Ruzzier have created a world where no one is made to feel stupid or foolish while the mystery of the missing socks is resolved. Recommended for ages 3-7.

Eve Bunting has written over 250 books on wide range of subjects, including fiction and nonfiction. She primarily writes for children and has been listed as one of the Educational Paperback Association's Top 100 authors. She was born in Ireland and now continues to write books from her home in Pasadena, California.
