After Mercury and Grammy nominations and 10 years of platinum-selling albums and chart-topping songs, Scottish musician and soundtrack composer KT Tunstall was tired of the spotlight and ready to leave professional music. Then, in 2012, her father, a physicist at the University of St. Andrews, died. "I felt like the biggest rock ’n’ roll cliché. I had everything I wanted – money in the bank, a career, a marriage, a house – and I wasn’t happy." Shaken out of the bubble of her musical touring life, Tunstall got divorced, sold her house in the UK, moved to California, and after a hiatus, returned to music recharged, with a newfound passion. “This feels like the beginning of the second chapter of my career.”
