John Myers Week On MTPR

We're celebrating the life of our friend and MTPR host John Myers the way radio people do best -- through music. Join us this week as we pay tribute to John with some of our favorite on-air moments and the musical collections he put together during his nearly 30 year career. Here's some of what we have planned, listen on your radio or online:

Monday, August 10:

8:00 - 9:00 p.m. - Martin Luther King Jr. Special produced by John Myers.

Tuesday, August 11:

John was the voice of Tuesdays on MTPR for many years. This Tuesday will continue that tradition.

11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m - "Tuesday Freeforms" will feature Montana songs from a collection by John Myers. Hosted by Michael Marsolek.

2:00 - 4:00 p.m. - "The Folk Show" will featuring music, guests, and reminiscences of John Myers years & contributions to MTPR. Hosted by Beth Anne Austein.

8:00 - 10:00 p.m. - "Get to That" will play folk, roots, bluegrass and Americana in tribute to John Myers. Hosted by Rigel Bankshot.

10:00 p.m.  - midnight - "Nightrain" - Annie Garde will share some selections from John's theme shows, adding some of her favorites as well.

Wednesday, August 12:

8:00 - 10:00 - "What I like about Jazz" With dear friend John Myers in my thoughts, we'll hear various recordings of Miles Davis and Horace Silver tunes. Tune in for re-imagined versions of the classic albums "Kind of Blue" and "Song For My Father". Both instrumental and several vocal versions will follow their original LP order.

10:00 - 11:00 p.m. - "Blues on the Move" will be a program from the archives hosted by John Myers.

Thursday, August 13:

10:00 p.m. - midnight - "Night Flight" Joan Richarde & Kay Whitlock play music selections, share memories & audio from the many years of our shows produced with John Myers each year.

Friday, August 14:

10 :00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. "Muses Jukebox" - Olivia Sears will host a special show in John's honor & memory.  Olivia spent many a late night on the air with John & Joan during our late night Spring Fundraiser shows through the years.

Saturday, August 15:

8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. - "Jonkunnu Express" - Joan will honor John Myers' contributions to MTPR with a special Calypso & Ska show featuring artists & songs that John introduced to her when he was one of the Jonkunnu Express hosts.

Sunday, August 16:

6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. - The first program in John's "Down the Line" series about American songs concerning trains, tramps, hobos, and moving "down the line." This program first aired in 1986.
