The Crown of the Continent Guitar Festival runs Sunday August 28 through Saturday September 3 in Bigfork. MTPR will be on hand Monday night for the the concert with Julian Lage and Chris Eldridge. Also on the bill is the gypsy jazz of Gonzalo Bergara. You can hear the rebroadcast of that concert Friday, Sept 2  at 8:00 p.m. on MTPR.

Jazz guitarist Julian Lage is somewhat of a child prodigy — playing his instrument at the age of five and performing in public a year later. Shortly thereafter, Lage began playing with such renowned artists as Carlos Santana (when he was only eight years old!)

As a member of Punch Brothers since the band’s inception, guitarist Chris Eldridge has been at the vanguard of acoustic music for much of the past decade. He was also a founding member of the bluegrass band The Infamous Stringdusters.

In 2014 this duo issued an album, Avalon, which contained bluegrass, folk, jazz, and classic pop standards; the pair called it a “love letter to the acoustic guitar.”

Gonzalo Bergara has emerged a virtuoso composer and lead guitarist. Mixing a cascade of arpeggios with the sounds of Paris and his native Argentina, he has forged his own style of progressive Gypsy Jazz.

Gonzalo began playing professionally at age 16 in Buenos Aires. By 17 he was already fronting his own blues trio on National Television. In 2000, at age 19, he arrived in America. Now, just 30 years old, Gonzalo has toured worldwide.
