Freezing rain could create dangerous driving conditions Friday morning in parts of western Montana.

Freezing rain could create dangerous driving conditions Friday morning in parts of western Montana. National Weather Service meteorologist Jeff Kitzmiller says light to moderate snow will move in later tonight bringing another 1 to 2 inches to many valleys.

"Then we’ll see a transition to rain, which will be freezing rain for tomorrow morning. That’s pretty much our main concern. The whole I-90 corridor looks pretty bad. We’re also worried about Highway 93 and all the way around Missoula.”

A winter storm watch posted for the Bitterroot and Missoula valleys is slated to expire at 11:00 a.m. Friday December 18.

Kitzmiller says scattered snow is expected to continue for several more days.

"It is going to be a really active week. Right now it looks like Saturday has a pretty good chance for widespread snow, especially in the mountains. Then again on Tuesday; that looks like the next big one.”

He says western Montana’s valleys could possibly get several inches of fresh snow early next week, while the mountains could get from 6 to 8 inches.
