Firefighters are reporting progress on three fires burning in Montana.

Graves Creek Fire

The Graves Creek Fire north of Thompson Falls is being held at about five acres in size. Firefighters established handline around the fire Tuesday. Two helicopters remain assigned to that fire, but were temporarily grounded Tuesday due to smoke and poor visibility. Helicopters will continue to work the fire as conditions allow. Fifteen firefighters are working the fire, with a Hotshot crew on order. No structures are threatened by the fire which is burning in steep, rocky terrain. Firefighters did report some backing within the fire perimeter Tuesday.

Glacier Rim Fire

On the Glacier Rim Fire near Columbia Falls, Tuesday evening winds spread one spot fire which was quickly extinguished. On the south flank, crews mopped 200 feet into the interior of the fire line.

Firefighters will continue with mop up, and the majority of the crews will demobilize today.

Rd 316, Canyon Creek Road will reopen to the public on Thursday July 9, 2015 at 12:01 a.m. Authorities ask that travelers continue to exercise caution as fire equipment will remain in the area for mop-up & containment operations.

Alex Camp Road Fire

As of Tuesday evening the Alex Camp Road Fire, burning in remote Petroleum County, was 50 percent contained. Cooler temperatures, winds blowing into the interior, and firefighter efforts kept the fire from spreading beyond its current 5,700 acres. Some of the 156 firefighters working the fire were demobilized today.
