Western Montana crops are vulnerable to potential freeze damage tonight.
A Canadian cold front that pushed into Montana this weekend will lead to clear skies, breezy conditions and near-record overnight lows.
National Weather Service meteorologist Lance Vandenboogart says the Flathead and Missoula valleys are looking at overnight temperatures in the low 30s to upper 20s.
"The coldest spots down in the bottom of the valleys might even see 28-degrees, 27-degrees, those types of temperatures.”
Libby and Great Falls could also have overnight lows ranging from the upper 20s to about 30 degrees. Vandenboogart says Butte’s lows could dip into the mid 20s.
"You definitely want to cover your sensitive vegetation tonight. It’s not a sure thing that everyone will be affected by (very cold) temperatures, but we certainly think large areas will be and it’s a precaution worth taking tonight.”
Wednesday morning will be cold as well, but temperatures will gradually warm back into the 70s later this week.
