The U.S. Census Bureau is still seeking to hire hundreds of temporary, part-time workers in Montana by the end of August.
After extending the deadline for a complete count due to COVID-19, the Census Bureau reversed course and bumped the deadline up to Sept. 30th. An estimated 40 percent of Montana’s population still needs to be counted.
Parts of the state with the greatest need for census workers are: All seven tribal reservation areas, Carter, Deer Lodge, Fergus, Flathead, Granite, Judith Basin, Madison, Phillips, Powder River, Ravalli, Richland, Rosebud and Wheatland counties.
Wages start at $15 an hour. Workers are reimbursed for mileage on personal vehicles.
Montanans interested in applying may do so online at 2020CENSUS.GOV/JOBS or MONTANAWORKS.GOV or by texting “montanajobs” to 313131.
Applicants are encouraged to call the Census Toll Free Job Hotline at 855-562-2020 and press option 3 to speak to someone to check the status of their application.

Montanans who have not yet responded to the 2020 Census can do so by going to MY2020CENSUS.GOV, by calling 1-844-330-2020, or by mailing in their Census form if they received one in the mail.
The count, which happens every decade, affects where federal funds go to support schools, tribal governments and healthcare. It also determines how seats in the U.S. House of Representatives are allocated.
