Thursday, the Montana House of Representatives continue hearings for the statewide budget. It’s unlikely to change, even though it faces more than 100 Democratic amendments, because of strong Republican support of the current bill.
If passed Thursday, which is likely, the budget will have face a final House vote before going to the Senate’s Finance and Claims committee. The committee’s chairman, Republican Senator Llew Jones, says they’ll then have a better estimate of state funds for the next two years, making for a better discussion.
State revenue estimates are expected for Friday or the following Monday.
Jones says one issue looks like it will get a lot of attention.
“I think that there is a recognition growing that we have not been committed in the last few years since the recession in directing enough dollars towards infrastructure.”
The vote to pass the budget bill in the House comes Thursday night. The bill will likely be heard in the Senate in the upcoming weeks.
