Schools in Belgrade, Montana were put under a shelter-in-place order today while law enforcement investigated a video threatening violence toward students.
Belgrade High School remained under the order until 4 p.m. A precautionary shelter-in-place order for Belgrade Middle School and Saddle Peak and Heck Quaw elementary schools was lifted at 3:30 p.m. and students were released at normal times.
Gallatin Media Center in a release said the Belgrade School District contacted Belgrade Police at 1 p.m. after the video was reported. The Belgrade police chief said the video was filmed off-site, but included threatening comments about other students at the school and featured a gun. An unspecified number of students were taken in for questioning.
Classes continued inside as normal while law enforcement secured the building.
Teachers in the district received training in 2017 to know how to react in the event of a school shooting. The "Run, Lock, Fight" curriculum was created by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Schools in Belgrade and Manhattan cancelled classes in April 2018 due to perceived threats graffitied on bathroom walls at the high schools.
