Some people receiving unemployment in Montana will start seeing an additional $600 in weekly benefits from the state labor department. The $600 bump was approved by Congress as part of the federal CARES Act.
Acting Department of Labor and Industry Commissioner Brenda Nordlund said Tuesday that Montana has begun paying the additional benefit. The money can be paid retroactively for those who had a claim beginning the week of March 29.
Gov. Steve Bullock said Tuesday the state is not yet including gig workers or self employed in unemployment payments. Bullock says late last week Montana received federal guidance on expanding the benefits to those workers.
