A female grizzly bear was found dead last week in the Spotted Bear area south of Hungry Horse Reservoir. A cub was also orphaned by a car wreck last weekend on Highway 93 south of Ronan that killed its mother and two siblings.

The Kootenai National Forest is slated to start five salvage timber sales in areas that burned last year, and one more is pending.

The Zulu fire is burning north of Libby in the Zulu Creek area.

The Zulu fire that it is believed lightning started Sunday in the Kootenai National Forest north of Libby expanded to 20 acres today.

Forest spokesman Willie Sykes tells the Flathead Beacon about 80 firefighters and several aircraft are fighting the fire. No structures are threatened.

The Flathead Beacon is reporting that a 10 acre wildfire started on the Kootenai National Forest Sunday, 23 miles north of Libby, and is still burning Monday.

Reportedly caused by lightning, the Zulu fire doesn’t threaten any structures. At least one helicopter has been dispatched to suppress the flames.

A man who fired shots at authorities near Bozeman yesterday has been arrested.

Federal, state and local authorities coordinated what Park County Sheriff Scott Hamilton called a “systematic sweep” of the area today. During the sweep, a woman who lives in the Bozeman Pass area called 911 to report seeing a man matching the description of 36-year-old Shaunesy Cole attempting to break into her home.

Smoke visible in the Missoula area Monday dropped the air quality to "moderate." The smoke is likely coming from the Klamathon Fire in California.

Sarah Coefield of Missoula City-County Health Department said the fire is burning about 35,000 acres near the California/Oregon border.

Police and protesters are preparing for a crowded rally as President Trump visits Great Falls on Thursday. It’s the first time a sitting president has spoken in the state since George W. Bush’s visit in 2005.

Cascade County Commissioner Jane Weber said she expects a high turnout, but the county feels prepared for the rally.
