Doctor, UM cut ties over COVID misinformation

A medical doctor and the University of Montana decided to cut ties this week after the doctor drew criticism for social media posts that were flagged for misinformation about COVID-19.

Dr. Justin Buls left his position Tuesday as the site director for the Family Medicine Residency of Western Montana in Kalispell.

The Daily Montanan broke news last month that Buls had been disciplined by Facebook for spreading misinformation about COVID-19 and vaccines, and equating mask mandates at schools to child abuse.

Dave Kuntz, UM’s spokesperson, says the decision for Buls to leave was mutual.

“He neither quit nor was fired, but both the residency program, the university and Dr. Buls felt it was in the best interest of all parties to move on.”

According to Logan Health’s website, Buls started working at the site in 2014.

Program officials are finalizing a job description that will likely be posted next week.
