2017 Median Household Income in the United States

Montana saw the biggest growth in median household income of any state in 2017, according to a U.S. Census Bureau report released last week.

The data show that median income rose by 4.7 percent across the state, from about $48,000 to $53,000 a year.

Nationally, median income rose by about 1.8 percent over the same period. This is the third year in a row that national number has grown.

USA Today reports that Missoula saw the fifth-largest growth of median income among all metropolitan areas in the country.

The Census Bureau report also shows that poverty went down in Montana, to just under 11 percent of the population; that’s down a little over 1 percent from the previous 2-year average.
